Knickerbocker Base Ball Club | Youth T-Shirt
The Knickerbocker Base Ball Club of New York, formally organized on September 23, 1845, is widely recognized as the first organized baseball club to play with written rules resembling the modern game. Founded by a group of Manhattan amateur athletes - most notably Alexander Cartwright and William R. Wheaton - the club codified the famous "Knickerbocker Rules". These regulations permanently revolutionized baseball by creating foul lines, establishing three-out innings, and outlawing the practice of throwing balls directly at runners to get them out.
